Georgian peasant family
In the morning, we head to Mtskheta and start the tour. Mtskheta is one of the oldest cities and old capital city of Georgia, located approximately 20 km north of Tbilisi. Mtskheta has historical monuments which are included in a UNESCO World Heritage Sites list.
Here in Mtskheta, we will visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. It is the patriarchal temple of the Georgian Orthodox Church, which for millennia was the main cathedral of all Georgia. A masterpiece of the Early and High Middle Ages, Svetitskhoveli is included in the list of World Heritage sites. At present it is considered to be one of the spiritual symbols of modern Georgia and is currently the second largest church building in Georgia, after the Holy Trinity Cathedral.
We will also visit Jvari Monastery. It is a sixth-century Georgian Orthodox monastery near Mtskheta - one of the masterpieces of architecture and the first monument of World Heritage Sites in Georgia. Built atop of Jvari Mount (656 m a.s.l.), the monastery is an example of harmonious connection with the natural environment, characteristic to medieval Georgian architecture. It is the place where the two Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers connect overlooking the town of Mtskheta.
Afterwards, we will visit the Georgian peasant family (for an additional fee - 70 GEL). You will learn what real Georgian hospitality is. Here we will taste Georgian wine and vodka - Chacha, and learn the history of grape culture and winemaking. Tasting is carried out from clay vials. Also here you will find masterclasses of Georgian cuisine (fragrant bread in “tone” and Georgian snickers - Churchkhela) and have an incredibly tasty Georgian dinner - your first acquaintance with the National Gastronomic Cuisine of Georgia. It is an introduction that will not leave you indifferent.
